What States Produce The Highest Paid CBs?

Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

Few parts of America pump out quality cornerbacks like the Buckeye State has over the years. In all, six Ohioans at that position suited up during Week 1 of the NFL regular season, proving again that football isn’t only a passing interest for Ohio sportsbooks customers.

That Ohio defensive backfield sextet is Marshon Lattimore, Denzel Ward, Troy Hill, Mike Edwards, Coby Bryant and Carrington Valentine. They all carry on the state’s longstanding tradition of defensive backfield excellence.

BetOhio.com wanted to see which states produce the highest paid current NFL cornerbacks. Using Spotrac.com, we found the highest paid cornerback on each NFL team, then found the average salary for each of the states where they were born, accounting only for those 32 players. We ranked the states based on highest average salary.

Which States Earn The Most?

For our survey, we only included the top-paid corner on each team according to Spotrac.com annual salary figures.

Nationally, the average yearly salary ($19.8 million) for cornerbacks hailing from the land of Ohio sportsbook apps ranks third overall. That’s behind only Tennessee ($24.1 million) and Pennsylvania ($21 million).

For 2024, Ward is the highest paid Ohio-born cornerback, at $20.1 million per year on average. That is ahead of fellow Buckeye State natives like Lattimore ($19.520 million), Hill ($1.377 million), Bryant ($1.116 million), Valentine ($985,176) and Edwards ($496,667).

Overall, Ohio’s defensive backfield stalwarts beat out other football-crazed states like Florida ($14.6 million), Virginia ($14.5 million), Louisiana and Maryland ($11.4 million each) on the cornerback salary leaderboard. That speaks to the talent that has come through the ranks from the Ohio River to the Great Lakes in recent years.
