Cities across the Buckeye State saw their traffic congestion rates soar in recent years. That says more about Ohio’s infrastructure than it does the demographics of the state, given the slow rate of growth between 2010 and 2020 compared to other states. Ohio sports betting is growing at a healthy pace but the population statewide is not.
Given Ohio’s 2.3% growth from the 2010 (11.536 million) to 2020 Censuses (11.799 million), it’s a little concerning to see how much traffic congestion has increased in some of the state’s largest metropolitan areas, including the state capital.
According to data from the INRIX 2023 Global Traffic Scorecard, traffic in Ohio has only gotten worse over the past year. Many states had at least one city where the traffic congestion improved, yet Ohio’s major cities all reported increased congestion. BetOhio.com wanted to see which Ohio cities had the worst increase in traffic congestion, according to this report.
Rank | City | % Increase In Traffic Congestion |
1 | Columbus | 50% |
2 | Youngstown | 46% |
3 | Toledo | 32% |
4 | Cincinnati | 25% |
5 | Dayton | 21% |
Based on the INRIX 2023 Global Traffic Scorecard data, we can infer that Columbus’ surge in congestion was on a level of its own. The state capital and home of Ohio State football has an increase in traffic congestion that was four percentage points ahead of second-place Youngstown’s 46% rise.
Toledo saw a 32% increase in traffic congestion during the period in question. Large cities Cincinnati (up 25%) and Dayton (21%) conclude the full rundown of the cities in Ohio with the largest increases in roadway gridlock.
Still, none of the other four cities could hold a candle to the capital city of the Buckeye State. Check out BetOhio.com for the latest 2024 Democratic nominee odds updates and more political coverage as well as sports betting updates.
