What Big Ohio Cities Are Most Forgotten?

The three biggest cities in Ohio, the ones where Ohio sports betting focuses on their major teams, are well-known around the nation.

But BetOhio.com wondered which big Ohio cities tend to be forgotten the most. We determined this by using a quiz on Sporcle.com that asked respondents to fill in the blanks when asked what the 10 most populous cities are in the state. We ranked those cities based on what percentage of quiz takers remembered them within the Sporcle site’s time limit. While you’re trying to run through the top 10 list yourself, you can get the best Ohio sportsbook promos here at BetOhio.com.

Three Ohio Cities Fall Below 50%

People taking the Sporcle quiz on Ohio cities knew all about Cleveland, but another community on Lake Erie was a lot more difficult.

Lorain was named just 18.2% of the time by folks trying to remember the 10 most populated cities in the state that offers legal, regulated Ohio sportsbook apps. That was the lowest percentage. Lorain is about 25 miles west of Cleveland, an easy drive on Interstate 90, nestled on the banks of the Black River.

Another medium-sized metropolis overshadowed by a much bigger nearby city was No. 2 on our list. That’s Hamilton, which is about 20 miles north of Cincinnati, in Butler County. Only 20.6% of Sporcle quiz takers got that one right.

Another burg near Cleveland, Parma (23.5%), was the only other top-10 city where more than half of respondents drew a blank. Parma is the largest suburb of Cleveland, and a place where Cleveland Cavaliers odds for winning the NBA title are surely a hot topic.

Three Big Cities Well Remembered

As we said, three big cities in Ohio stand out above the rest for name recognition as well as population. That’s the three Cs: Cleveland (97.3% got that one correct), state capital Columbus (96.4%) and Cincinnati (95.4%).

Those cities account for all of the big sports teams in the state – Cleveland’s Cavs, Browns and Guardians; Cincinnati’s Bengals, Reds and Cincinnati FC of Major League Soccer; and the Blue Jackets and Crew in Columbus. The latter is also, of course, home to the state’s largest university – and most of the state is still buzzing over the Ohio State Buckeyes’ national championship in football.

All three of those cities, as well as Toledo, have brick-and-mortar casinos. Our guide to legal Ohio casinos gives you insight on these facilities, which offer a different experience from the online sportsbooks in the state.
